Seed fund seeks entrepreneurs for investment

Date: Tuesday, August 7, 2012, 10:13am EDT

Dayton entrepreneurs, take note: a local seed fund is looking for a new business to jump-start.

The Connor Group Foundation Seed Investment Fund, which was established in 2010, is seeking new loan applicants among current University of Dayton students and alumni.

The Fund’s first recipient — UDECX LLC, a local manufacturer of do-it-yourself modular decking and patio kits — plans to start production by the end of 2012 after a $50,000 loan from the seed fund helped the company get off the ground.

Interested entrepreneurs can apply by contacting fund director Richard Anglin at ranglinbiz@yahoo.com.

The seed fund was started by local real estate investment firm The Connor Group with a $225,000 gift to the University of Dayton.

Coalition to hold funding meetings for tech startups

The Dayton Development Coalition is looking for a new wave of investment for its Entrepreneurial Signature Program.

On Aug. 1 and Aug, 8, the coalition will hold pre-seed fundraising kick-off meetings for the Dayton Region Signature Fund II. Officials say the fund provides a unique opportunity to participate in a proven program to accelerate technology startups and directly contribute to the growth and prosperity of the Dayton region.

Both meetings will be held at The Engineer’s Club on Monument Avenue in Dayton. The Aug. 1 meeting will start at 7:30 a.m. and the Aug. 8 meeting will start at 3:30 p.m.

During the past five years, the coalition reports its Entrepreneurial Signature Program has touched more than 700 businesses and brought more than 70 on as “portfolio companies,” which get a combination of services and cash support. Those companies have created more than 400 jobs — and project a total employment of more than 1,400 within three years — and half of them have attracted a combined $133 million in revenue and investment.

The coalition received $9 million in state funding for ESP across five years, but new funding is up in the air as the Ohio Third Frontier commission considers the future of the program.
